What is the Social Fund?

If you are on a low income and faced with costs that are difficult to pay for out of your normal income, the Social Fund may be able to help.

The Social Fund can give a payment, a grant or a loan to help with things like:

* items for the house
* clothes and footwear
* travel costs. This includes some prison visit costs for fares.
* urgent costs to keep you and your family safe
* items for a new baby
* a funeral
* heating costs in very cold weather, and
* heating costs during the winter to people aged 60 or over.
